Indigenous Engagement and Leadership 120

This course will provide learners with opportunities to explore various conceptualizations of Indigenous leadership. The course was designed around the Indigenous principles of respect, relevance, reciprocity, and responsibility. Learners will become familiar with the NB Global Competencies and how they may self-assess these during the course and beyond. Learners will be introduced to both the general and specific curricular outcomes which are woven through the three strands: personal development; leadership development; and, engagement.

This bundle is an exploratory unit on Maple syrup. Students will be able explain facts about Maple syrup and be able to explain problems that face Maple syrup producers.

Read Like A Historian - New Brunswick’s Black History

This set of lessons explores disciplinary literacy, specifically how to read like a historian. Students will learn to ask pertinent questions to establish historical significance. They will also learn and apply strategies to explore historical documents.

This bundle will cover four physical education lessons, all based on the book “Walking together” by Albert Marshall & Louise Zimanyi, and fundamental movements inspired by animals.

Mi’kmaq Storytelling

This comprehensive lesson plan bundle is designed to introduce students to the tradition of Mi’kmaq storytelling while promoting literacy skills such as listening, comprehension, creativity and critical thinking. Through a series of engaging activities, students will explore the cultural significance of Mi’kmaq stories, learn about key storytelling elements, and develop their own storytelling abilities. The bundle incorporates both traditional and modern approaches, providing a holistic learning experience.

Introductions & Wabanaki Ceremonies

Within this bundle are the materials needed to instruct a lesson on The Honour Song, conducting ceremony (smudging), creating a talking stick, teaching basic greetings, and participating in a talking circle both Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey languages.

By the end of the lesson learners should be able to identify all elements, use them efficiently, and provide feedback to classmates using descriptive art terminology.

Space Exploration

Students will examine reasons why we explore space, especially for discovering new habitats that could sustain life. Pupils will then investigate variables that must be considered while designing their own habitat on Mars. Throughout the unit, they are encouraged to reflect on how the challenges and constraints involved in space colonization and exploration develop human ingenuity.
