High School Block:
Yoga 110
Yoga 110 is designed to support learners’ experiences and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of yoga. By practicing relaxation, movement, and mindfulness strategies, learners can enhance their self-awareness and overall well-being. Learners will develop an appreciation of the connection between the mind, body, and spirit and how these connections influence not only their yoga practice but also their mindset and well-being. Through work in yoga practice, learners will gain applied pranayama and mindfulness techniques, functional movement techniques (e.g., postures, sequencing, styles), positive coping strategies, and self-reflection techniques, all of which serve to enhance social-emotional skills. Learners will be supported to practice respectful, ethical, inclusive, and safer behaviours in a variety of environments. Learners can expect to learn about the eight limbs of yoga, including asana, which is the physical practice. They will also engage in topics such as: the study of yoga, the flow of energy, the connection to citizenship and careers, the human system, and the ongoing development of mental well-being. This course is suitable for learners with an interest in learning more about yoga, as well as for those with prior yoga experience.
Special training:
The educator must be a certified YTT 200 (Yoga Teacher Training with 200 hours of training).
